Berhampur, March 20 (Localwire): Supporters of former Paralakhemundi MLA and BJD leader K. Narayan Rao on Tuesday went on a rampage after the party denied him a ticket.
Rao’s supporters ransacked the party office at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati after the decision.
He later held a meeting with his supporters at Ranipetha to decide the future course of action.
One of his aides said that Rao may either fight as an independent, or join BJP.
BJD has nominated Kalyani Gajapathi, daughter of ex-Berhampur MP Gopinath Gajapati from the seat this time. Kalyani had joined BJD recently.
Rao was apparently unhappy with the party chief for not consulting him before Kalyani’s selection.
Meanwhile, three-time BJD MLA from Aska, Debaraj Mohanty has also been denied a ticket. Mohanty, though, said he won’t quit the party.
“Some parties have invited me but I will remain with Naveen Patnaik,” said Mohanty.
Other BJD leaders, who have been denied tickets, include Berhampur MLA Ramesh Chandra Chaupatnaik, Chhatrapur MLA Priyanshu Pradhan and Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi.
