Berhampur, May 2 (LocalWire): In view of cyclonic storm Fani, a large number of pregnant women from Ganjam and Gajapti districts have been shifted to various hospitals in order to ensure good medical care for them, official sources said.
The shifting process, that was being monitored by accredited social health (ASHA) workers, started on Wednesday, they said.
As many as 511 pregnant women were identified in Ganjam district and 201 in Gajapati district, they said.
Shifting of the pregnant women in both the districts was still on, they added.
Out of shifted pregnant women in Ganjam district, 23 of them have already delivered babies in different hospitals, said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Ganjam, Bijay Kumar Panigrahy.
The mothers and their babies were safe, he said.
Similarly in Gajapati district, only baby one was delivered at district headquarter hospital, Paralakhemundi, said CDMO Gajapati G R Patnaik.
The authorities took steps in advance to shift the pregnant women to the nearby hospitals so they do not face problem during the cyclonic storm, thye said.
