Bhubaneswar (LocalWire) July 13: The schools and mass education department in the state has constituted a special cell to probe and detect contractual teachers holding fake trained educational certificates to earn eligibility for the posts.
According to a senior official from the Department of School and Mass Education, the junior teachers who were engaged on contract basis and later regularized from 1 January 2011 would come under the scanner of the special cell.
The drive to detect fake teachers has been undertaken following allegations were received from specific quarters, the officer said, adding that the department has set up a special cell to cross check all certificates of contractual and regular teachers appointed during the last eight years.
“The process for verification of certificates is in progress and the ‘suspect’ certificates have been sent to the respective institutions for their confirmation.
If the said institutions do not endorse the genuineness of the certificates, the fake certificate holders would be sacked from the jobs and the department will register criminal cases of fraud against them,” the official stated.
A simultaneous inquiry is also in progress to identify errant teachers who are allegedly using “proxy” teachers to teach on their behalf.
According to department sources, there are instances of proxy teaching in government primary schools, mostly in remote corners of the state with some teachers illegally “appointing” educated unemployed youths to teach on their behalf.
“These youths disappear during the first week of the month, when the salaries are drawn and routine official inspections take place and paid anything between Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 depending on the benevolence of the employer,” the official explained.
