Jagatsinghpur, Dec 24 (LocalWire) Local police on Monday said they busted a duplicate zarda and gutkha (forms of chewing tobacco) factory in Kendal village under Jagatsinghpur police limit.
The owner of the fake zarda factory was arrested for illegally producing the banned product.
Sources said sale of original Gopal brand zarda dropped in different areas of coastal districts, especially Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts, due rise of sale of duplicate zarda.
Gopal brand zarda factory manager Kailash Chandra Chauhan lodged an FIR at the local police station against flourishing fake zarda factories.
Acting on a tip off, inspector-in-charge Rajani Kant Mishra conducted a raid at Pramoda Sahoo’s house in Kendal village on Sunday and seized a duplicate Zarda machine, Gopal brand polythene and silver polythene.The illegal factory was running from the house itself. Total worth of seized materials was Rs 5 lakh.
The police arrested factory owner Sahoo, while two others are absconding.
Earlier, Sahoo was arrested by Madhupatana police for producing fake zarda in 2013. After being released from jail, he started producing fake zarda in Kendal village and sold it in coastal districts.
