Kendrapara : Police on Saturday said a 55-year-old farmer was allegedly killed after being trapped in a harvesting machine at Chadehia village in Kendrapara district.
The incident occurred when Giridhar Sahoo was harvesting paddy in the field. He got struck in the blades of the machine.
By the time other farmers realised and switched off the machine, he was dead.
We have seized the body and sent it to the local government hospital for autopsy, said Bijaya Das of Pattamundi police.
It may be recalled that a 35-year-old farmer of Sarama village was killed last week in a similar incident.
Human error and inappropriate use of machines are the reasons for farming accidents . Farmers should wear half pant, T – shirt and gloves while operating power- tillers and other modern agriculture equipment, said M Das, deputy director of district agriculture department.
Accidents are mainly caused for carrying out repair work or adjustment of machines whilst the machine is running, he added.
