Bhubaneswar, Feb 14 (Localwire): The Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NKSS), an organization of farmers, has called for an Odisha bandh on February 21 in support of various demands.
Announcing this, NNKS national convener Akshay Kumar stated the farmers’ body called the state-wide bandh to press for their long-standing demand of price, prestige and pension.
The farmers are also protesting police atrocity against them. Time and again they have taken different steps to press their demands.
The bandh has been called on the day when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to address a massive farmers convention at Sohela in Bargarh to announce benefits under KALIA (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation) scheme.
“We have requested political parties, think-tanks, traders’ associations and the bus and truck owners’ associations to support our cause and make the bandh successful,” Kumar added.
Earlier on February 6, thousands of farmers were taken into preventive custody while they were on their way to attend a mega rally in state capital Bhubaneswar.
