Jagatsinghpur, Jan 5 (LocalWire): Hundreds of farmers resorted to demonstration and road blockade in Jagatsingpur district on Saturday over scarcity of forms to enroll their names under KALIA Scheme.
KALIA Scheme stands for “Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation”.
Draft lists are available at all gram panchayat (GP) offices since January 2 and in case of inclusion or exclusion, a farmer can deposit the forms (green or red) by January 10 for the same, the government had announced earlier.
Hundreds of farmers in the district rushed to their respective GP office for the same on Saturday but nonavailability of required number of forms irked the farmers.
A group of farmers from Icchapur panchayat under Balikuda block alleged that though the applying process has begun from January 2, the department had sent only 30 forms on Friday while around 450 farmers were in waiting to apply.
It is an artificial shortage because the same forms are being sold by panchayat officials at Rs 5 to 10, the farmers added.
The block office has received only 1000 forms. So, we have supplied only 30 to 40 forms to each panchayat to manage the crowd, said an official of agriculture department on condition of anonymity.
Not only Icchapur panchayat, the forms are not available at all 198 panchayats in the district, said an irate farmer.
Panchayat Samiti member of Dhinkia panchayat Devendra Kumar Swain alleged that nearly 350 farmers returned from panchayat office without getting forms as only 150 forms were received on Saturday, after four days of the announced date.
