Malkangiri, Jan 10 (LocalWire) Farmers, under the aegis of Zilla Adivasi Mahasangh, on Thursday hit the streets of Malkangiri district over delay in paddy procurement.
The farmers reportedly staged road blockades by putting sacks full of paddy at ten different mandis (procurement centres) in the district.
According to sources, the farmers alleged they have been waiting for days for millers to procure their produce at the mandis. But the indefinite delay has made them take to protest.
“We made repeated appeals to the administration. But no one has paid any heed to it. It’s over 20 days and no procurement has been done as promised by the government. We have no option but to demonstrate,” said farmer Pitambar Muduli.
Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was affected to some extent across the district due to the agitation.
