Berhampur: Feb 21 (LocalWire): A state-wide bandh call given by the Naba Nirmana Krushak Sanghatahan on Thursday evoked partial response in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
While buses in both districts were off the roads, educational institutions were seen functioning as usually and government offices remained open.
Bandh supporters have blocked the national highway at Kanishi, near here and at Paralakhemundi, the district headquarter town of Gajapati by burning tyres.
In Gajapati district, three platoons of security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, the police said.
The farmers’ organization has called the dawn-to-dusk bandh to highlight the plight of the farmers in the state. It has been demanding pension to farmers as well as better price for their produce.
The opposition parties, including BJP and Congress, have extended their support to the bandh.
