Berhampur, Dec 16 (LocalWire): A massive fire broke out in Sunathara village under Ganjam district’s Purushottampur block burning the thatched houses in the wee hours of the morning today. There was, however, no report of any deaths.
At least two fire tenders with 10 firemen took around four hours to douse the fire, which broke out at around 5.30 am.
Though the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that electric short-circuit might be the reason behind it.
Around 25 families were rendered homeless in the mishap with a loss of over Rs 6 lakh being reported, said in-charge fire officer, Purushottampur Deenabandhu Pradhan.
Officials including sub-Collector Chhatrapur, Priya Ranjan Prusty, block development officer and tehsildar, Purushottampur Simanchal Mohanty and Arun Nayak rushed to the spot.
A free-kitchen has been set up for the affected families for the next three days. He also asked the concerned revenue inspector to assess the damage.
