Kendrapara, Dec 2 (LocalWire) A massive fire destroyed paddy fields with crops worth lakh at Mulabasant village under Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district, police said on Sunday.
According to police, the fields caught fire when sparks from two electrical wires fell on the crops around 8.30 pm on Saturday.
“Crops over 12 acre land were destroyed,” said farmer Amar Pradhan.
Locals tried to douse the flames and retrieve half-burnt crops. Soon, fire officials reached the spot to control the flames.
“Crops of as many as 25 farmers were destroyed in the fire,” said farmer Janardan Das.
Kendrapara sub-collector Sanjay Mishra said: “I have already asked the Tehasildar of Mahakalapada and the district agriculture officer to submit a report after visiting the village. The authorities will provide help to the affected farmers.”
