Rourkela, Dec 5 (LocalWire) A major fire in the administrative block of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela early Wednesday destroyed many important files of purchase and works department, said officials.
According to officials, at least six computers and couple of printers also have been turned to ashes in this incident.
NIT Rourkela registrar S K Upadhaya on Wednesday lodged a complaint in Sector 3 police station of the city, following which senior police officials along with forensic team visited the spot and conducted an inquiry.
The reason of the outbreak of fire has not been ascertained yet.
According to sources, around 2.15 am, security staff of NIT Rourkela noticed smoke coming out from the administrative block of the institute.
The fire brigade was called in and by the time the flames were doused, documents, computers and furniture had been destroyed, said NIT officials.
“There were extensive damage of documents, computers and furniture present in the room which caught fire,” said Upadhaya.
K K Mohapatra, Dean Academy, NIT Rorukela, told reporters: “Some of the details of the files, which were stored in the server can be recovered whereas majority of the documents of the department has been gutted.”
Earlier in May, a fire broke out at the computer lab of the institute.
