Berhampur, Oct 1 (LocalWire): At least five people were injured, two of them seriously after villagers of two adjoining fishermen dominated-villages clashed last night.
The seriously-injured people were admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital and their condition is stated to be serious, police said.
Villagers of Ramayapatna and Chandanbada in Ganjam district’s Golanthara police station limits, about 40-km from here clashed over fishing near Bahuda river mouth and lifting of sand, said inspector in charge Golanthara police station Babuli Nayak.
The clash occurred near the river mouth, where the rival groups attacked each other with swords and other sharp weapons, police said.
Previous enmity between the two villages also led to the issue, police said.
Though tension prevailed in the area following the clash, it is under control now, police said.
At least four platoons were deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation although no one has been arrested so far.
‘Our first priority is to bring normalcy in the area,’ police added.
