Bhubaneswar, Sept 17 (LocalWire): The flights at Biju Patnaik International Airport will be rescheduled for eight months because of the proposed re-carpeting of the airport’s runways.
The runways are in urgent need of recarpeting which had last been undertaken in 2007.
‘We have written to the directorate general of civil aviation for its approval,’ the BPAI director, Suresh Chandra Hota, said.
Re-carpeting is proposed to start from November 2019 and go on till June 2020.
It will be carried out in a phased manner.
In the first phase, the runway re-carpeting will be done at night from 10 pm till 5.30 am from November to March.
So there will be no night flights during the period. Similarly, the daytime flights will be rescheduled from April to June month when the re-carpeting will be done in day hours, he said.
