Bhubaneswar, April 7 (LocalWire): A four-day training-cum-orientation program on data preparation and management for flood forecasting of Mahanadi and Rushikulya river basins was held from 3-5 April, organized by OSDMA.
Engineers and experts from the department of water resources participated in the workshop.
Hands on training on basics of hydrological modelling, operationalization of flood forecasting system were imparted by experts from the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, Thailand.
RIMES has developed a web/smartphone-based platform SATARK (system for accessing, tracking and alerting disaster risk information based on dynamic risk knowledge) for timely and real time watch, alert and warning information for different hazards such as lightning, heatwaves, agricultural risks (droughts) and floods.
The tool also has a comprehensive disaster database.
District emergency officers and the district project officer attended the demonstration and orientation on SATARK application on Saturday. Feedbacks and suggestions from the participants were taken.
The commissioner-cum-secretary (DM) and Managing Director, OSDMA, Bishnupada Sethi, presided over the meeting and requested all participants to to make the project a success.
