Bhubaneswar, December 6 (LocalWire): The skilled workforce from Odisha should seek overseas job opportunities only through registered placement agencies and licensed labour firms to ensure their safe employment abroad.
“Migrant workers based abroad are always vulnerable to exploitation and so they should adopt the mandatory precaution while traveling abroad for employment.
The ministry of external affairs (MEA) has launched a digital e-Migrate platform to protect the less-educated blue-collar workers,” MEA spokesperson Raveeh Kumar said while briefing reporters here.
The e-Migrate is an effective platform that ensures protection against possible exploitation of the Indian worker, he said, adding that in majority cases, the less-educated skilled workers face problems in foreign countries and encounter immigration issues as they land there on tourists visa instead of workers visa.
“They should be extra cautious and refrain from traveling on a tourist visa when going abroad for a job,” he said.
Kumar also informed that keeping in view the instances of harassment and the trouble faced by the job seekers across states, including Odisha, the MEA has established Protector General of Emigrants (PGE).
The special cell looks into the safety and interest of Indian workers heading to other countries in search of livelihood, he stated.
The PGE is assigned the responsibility of protecting the interests of Indian workers proceeding abroad for employment purposes, and it is also the registering authority responsible for issuing the Registration Certificate (RC) to a recruiting agent for overseas manpower export business in accordance with the Emigration Act, 1983.
