Berhampur, September 28 (Local Wire) Security forces undertook a combing operation in Southern Odisha searching Maoist rebels accused of killing two Telugu Desam Party leaders, including the sitting MLA of Aruk seat in Andhra Pradesh.
The security forces suspect the accused red rebels have crossed to Odisha after killing the two TDP leaders in order to hide.
“We have put the anti-Maoist forces in southern Odisha districts alert while combing operation was intensified since Sunday, after the incident occurred,” said Asish Singh, DIG of police (southern range).
A group of Maoists had shot dead TDP MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former TDP MLA Siveri Soma last Sunday when they were returning from a meeting at Liptuputtu village in Andhra Pradesh.
A senior police officer said there was a possibility for the Maoist gang to spread into splinter groups and sneak into the different part of state’s southern districts, infested by the Maoists.
The districts included Malkanagiri, Koraput, Kandhamal and Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nayagarh where the killers could have taken shelter with the help of local Maoists.
The Grey Hound of Andhra Pradesh has already launched a massive manhunt to trace out the killer Maoist group.
The special force has also passed on vital information about the suspects to the Odisha police, sources said.
