Berhampur, Sept 24 (LocalWire): Forest personnel on Thursday unearthed an illegally run saw mill at Lauput village near Rambha under Khallikote range of Berhampur forest division.
Saw mill accessories and timber worth nearly Rs. 3 lakh have been seized, said range officer, Khallikote Dillip Kumar Martha.
No person however arrested as its owner fled from the spot, he said.
“We have registered a case and started investigation of the case,” he added. The forest personnel raided the mill acting on a tip-off about its illegal operation, sources said.
With this, forest officials have unearthed at least five illegally run sawmills in the district in the last two months.
Earlier they had seized illegal mills from Belajhari near Kodala, Athagarh Patna, near Kabisurya Nagar, Bagalpur near Ganjam and Kendupata near Khallikote, sources said.
No one however was arrested in these connections, sources added.
Divisional forest officer (DFO) Berhampur Amlan Nayak said raids to unearth the illegally run sawmills would be continued in the different areas in the division and stringent action would be taken against the operators of the mills.
In another raid in a village near Khallikote, forest personnel seized around 25-sheets of timbers, sources said.
The value of the seized timber was not quantified, range officer said.
