Berhampur, Dec 30 (LocalWire): Vigilance sleuths today arrested the forest ranger, Bramhanigaon in Kandhamal district, for amassing assets worth more than Rs 1.13-crore, calculated at around 155 percent of his known sources of income.
The anti-corruption agency personnel had conducted raids in seven places, including Berhampur, Baliguda, Sarangagada and Bramhanigaon, on Friday where Kailash Sahu and his wife Sradhanjali Sahu had properties.
‘Around 75% of the properties are in the name of his wife, who is a housewife without any income.
A case has been registered against Sradhanjali and the forester has been forwarded to the special vigilance court, Phulbani,’ said vigilance SP (Berhampur) Mayadhar Swain.
The properties of the forester include five buildings, three at Baliguda, one each at Sarangagada in Kandhamal district and Nimakhandi near Berhampur.
Besides these, he also has two plots in Berhampur and Baliguda.
He owns a tractor (Rs 7.75 lakh), a motorcycle in the name of his son (Rs 83,000) and the total household articles found from his house were estimated at Rs 4.73 lakhs, Swain said.
Sahu also invested Rs 5.77 lakh in different insurance companies.
The gold ornaments found from his possession weighed around Rs 172 grams, valued at Rs 1.03 lakhs, he said.
Sahu joined the service in 1989 as a temporary village forest worker.
Later, his service was regularized in 2009.
