Phulbani, Dec 3 (LocalWire) A 58-year old man, who is working as a government employee for the last 33 years, was arrested for allegedly forging his caste certificate, said police on Monday.
Banu Digal of Khajurinal under Baliguda police station limits in Kandhamal district was forwarded to the court after his arrest on Sunday, said Baliguda police station in-charge Rama Kant Patra.
Digal was working as a laboratory attendant in the quality control office of the water resources development department at Bhubaneswar.
He joined the job in 1985 and is two years due to retirement from service.
Police swung into action after District Welfare Officer (DWO) Kandhamal lodged an FIR against Digal after the State Level Scrutiny Committee (SLSC) conformed he forged his caste certificate to get government benefits meant for tribals, said Patra.
Sources said Digal belongs to Economically Socially Backward Caste (ESBC), but he mentioned himself as Scheduled Tribe (ST) Kandha tribe caste to avail the government benefits, including a government job.
