Balasore, Oct 6 (LocalWire): Former lawmaker of Balasore parliamentary constituency Dr. Kartikeswar Patra passed away due to COVID-19 on Monday around 12 o’clock late night when he was on the way to Bhubaneswar in an ambulance.
An eminent writer, he was 79, a three-time former lawmaker from Bhograi constituency (MLA) in 1971, 1974, and 1980 and one time MP from Balasore district in 1991. He had contested as a Congress candidate.
Dr. Patra was a teacher and educationist, writer, political and social worker, agriculturist and farmer, besides a sportsman and musician.
He is survived by his wife, former MLA of Bhograi, Umarani Patra and son Debasish Patra. His family was living in Sundaradi village, his birthplace, and later settled at Maheshpur in Bhograi block in the district.
The veteran politician cum writer was ill for the last four days.
He was undergoing treatment for fever going by the advice of a private doctor. His family then informed the health department of Bhograi hospital.
Thereafter, a medical team from Bhograi hospital collected his swab sample and the report revealed that he was COVID-19 positive.
In the evening, when his health condition was stated to be critical and he complained of respiratory problems, he was being taken to Bhubaneswar in an ambulance.
Just when he arrived at Bhadrak town, his condition was critically severe and he was found dead when the time was exactly 12.40 late night. A pall of gloom prevails across the district for the demise of the personality.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences and tweeted that he was deeply saddened by the sudden death of eminent writer Dr. Kartikeswar Patra.
