Bhubaneswar, May 14 (Local Wire): Noted freedom fighter from the state and former Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha Bhabani Charan Pattanayak on Thursday died in the city at the age of 98 years.
The Gandhian was admitted to Capital Hospital in the city after he complained of breathing problems.
He was taken to Capital Hospital in an ambulance but during his treatment in the ICU of the hospital he breathed his last.
Pattanayak had received Padmashree award from the Indian government and had been a member of the Upper House in the 60s and 70s.
He had been a member of Janata Party and also Secretary of Utkal Pradesh Congress Party from 1957-67.
He was born on May 11, 1922.
Political leaders like Atanu Sabyasachi and Sameer Dash had visited the family after his demise soon after getting the news.
Other leaders are also expected to visit his bereaved family.
