Rourkela, Nov 22 (LocalWire) Four people were arrested in connection with the death of an elephant by Rajgangpur forest range of Sundargarh district, officials said on on Wednesday.
The prime accused in the case was arrested earlier.
Officials of Rajgangpur forest range on Wednesday arrested four accused identified as Sadhu Ekka, Surendra Minz, Mallar Ekka and Prafulla Kerketta of Malarpada under Rajgangpur police limit.
“Four more accused in the case have been arrested,” said Dilip Kumar Sahoo, ACF, Rourkela forest division.
Another accused identified as Sukra Oram is still at large.
“We will arrest him soon.” Sahoo said.
According to sources, a herd of elephants were wreaking havoc at Malarpada of Sunakhandi village under Rajgangpur forest range.
The herd of elephants, besides destroying crops, had allegedly crushed one villager to death.
This led to the killing of a female elephant by an angry mob on Oct 12.
Later, they chopped the animal into pieces and buried her.
Acting on a tip off, on Nov 1, Rajangpur forest range officials arrested prime accused Herman Kerketta.
Meanwhile, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Rourkela forest division suspended forester and forest guard of Rajgangpur forest range in the case.
A show cause notice has been issued to Rajgangpur forest range officer.
