Bhubaneswar, August 17 (LocalWire) The state government on Saturday appointed senior bureaucrat Gagan Kumar Dhal as chairman of Odisha Forest Development Corporation.
“The post of Chairman ,OFDC is declared equivalent in status and responsibility to the post of Chief Secretary,” said a notification from General Administration department of state government.
On Friday, the department had stated that officer Dhal had wished to resign from his post citing family and personal issues.
There were rumours that Dhal was unhappy about the recent duty allocation of IAS officers in the state and had sent his resignation saying he would not receive any gratuity and other benefits post his resignation.
The state government on Thursday had announced changes to key IAS posts who report directly to the Chief Ministers’ Office.
Dhal, who was agriculture production commissioner had been removed from his position in that announcement.
In other development, the state government has taken away forest and environment department charge from Suresh Mohapatra after he was appointed as Development Commissioner.
He has been given additional charges of Secretary, Planning and Coordination department.
Mona Sharma will now have the additional duty of forest and environment department along with Rural Development department.
Similarly, newly appointed Agriculture Production Commissioner Pradipta Mohapatra will have additional charges as secretary of School and Mass Education department.
After Asit Tripathy’s appointment as Chief Secretary, the post of KBK districts administrator has been given to Sudarshan Pal Thakur, who will also work as head of Gopabandhu Academy.
Industry secretary Sanjiv Chopra will have an additional duty as Home Secretary while Commerce &Transport secretary Manoj Mishra has been appointed as in charge of Electronics and IT department.
Rudra Narayan Palei, who was E&IT department special secretary, will now work as Special Secretary in Revenue and Disaster Management department, the notification said.
This is the third such reshuffle among IAS cadres since start of this month.
