Berhampur, March 18 (LocalWire): Police busted a fake currency note printing unit in Paralakhemundi, Gajapati district on Monday and arrested two people, while another gave them the slip.
‘We seized fake currency notes worth Rs 2.50 lakh from the unit which was running in a rented house,’ said SP (Gajapati) Sarah Sharma. ‘All the fake currency notes are in Rs 500 denomination. Besides the fake currencies, chemical solutions, cutting papers and some other materials were also seized from the unit,’ she added.
‘It was revealed during interrogation that the racket was on for a week since the men had rented the house in Sridhara Nagara, The counterfeit notes may have been printed to be put in circulation during the twin elections in the state. But we have to investigate in detail this angle,’ she added.
SDPO Paralakhemundi, Thakuara Prasad Patra, who led the raid, said although they could not arrest the king pin who escaped during the raid, police would investigate the details of the racket; how many fake notes were produced and circulated till date before forwarding them to the court.
The arrested were identified as Karunakara Parida, 39 of Mahadeipur near Gurundi and Santosh Majhi ,40, of Basundara in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, he said.
