Berhampur, Nov 2 (LocalWire) Continuing its crackdown on illegal ganja plantation in government lands, a joint squad of police, excise and revenue personnel destroyed the plants worth about Rs 1.30 crore under Gochhapada police station in Kandhamal district on Saturday.
Acting on a tip off, the squad raided the area and found 1.30 lakh full gown ganja plants in about 130 acres of dense forest area in Kandrabali and Katringia panchayats.
Kandrrabali alone accounted for about 1.20 lakh of ganja plants worth around Rs 1.20-crore, said inspector in-charge, Gochhapada police station Trupti Ranjan Nayak.
However, no one was arrested in this connection as none came forward during the operation, he said adding the squad comprising about 200 personnel took two days to destroy the plants with the help of machines to cut the bushes.
It was third such raids in the district in the last three days .
On Thursday, the squad had destroyed ganja plants in about 105 acres of land in a remote village under Phiringia police station, the sources said adding the crackdown would continue for a few more days.
