Berhampur, Feb 11 (LocalWire) Around 800 kg of ganja, hidden under the driver’s cabin of an empty truck, was seized by the police at Singipur in Aska-Bhanjanagara road in Ganjam district’s Gangapur police station, about 60 km from here, on Monday.
Three people, identified as Rihit Kumar Gajendra (42) of Malipada in Khurda district, G.Kalibabu (38), Khallasi Sahi, Berhampur and Sushant Kumar Digal (32) of Phulbani in Kandhamal district, were arrested.
They were arrested on charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
Besides ganja, weighing 794.135 kg, the truck (OR-O4-L-4429), vehicle documents, three cell phones, Rs 3.24 lakh in cash and instruments to open the cabin were seized from the accused, said Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)(Bhanjanagara) Utkal Keshari Das.
It was one of the biggest seizures of ganja in the recent months in the district, the police said.
Das said preliminary investigation revealed the contraband was being illegally transported from Mohana in Gajapatio district to New Delhi.
As many as 25 packets of ganja, packed in jari bags were hidden inside the driver’s cabin of the vehicle.
The cabin was specially designed to keep the ganja packed bags, he said.
