Berhampur, August 14 (LocalWire): Ganjam became the first district in the state on Friday to cross one-lakh COVID-19 tests.
tests include antigen and RT-PCR (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction), according to the district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
He, however, did not spell out the exact number of tests conducted in the district so far.“People are voluntarily coming forward for COVID testing due to the awareness campaigns organized by the district administration.
Testing camps were held in Panchayats and health centres,” he told reporters here.
“Aggressive screening, finding symptomatic persons, testing and treatment were done by the administration to reduce the viral load in the district,” he added.
As the sample tests were increased around tenfold in the district in the last 15 days, the number of positive cases increased, he said. However, the number of positives has been in a declining trend from the beginning of August.
He hoped the no. of cases in the district would be reduced further in the coming days, if people continue to extend their cooperation to the administration and come forward for testing.
Meanwhile the number of COVID-19 deaths in district in the state breached 150, with four more persons succumbing to the disease, driving up the total death toll to 151.
Similarly, the total number of infections reported in the district crossed 14,000, with 280 fresh cases detected.
The number of deaths in the district was high due to the late rush of the patients to the hospital, he said. “That’s why we have appealed to the people to come forward for testing at the early stage.
Early detection and subsequent testing will save the lives of the patients as the doctors will get the time for treatment,” collected said.
