Berhampur, Jan 25 (LocalWire) Several supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Ganjam district unit staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) (Southern Range) here protesting alleged police inaction in connection with the Jan 12 incident.
They alleged police took no action against the accused who had reportedly attacked the campaign vehicle and tore party flags on Jan 12 at K.Nuagaon police limits under Chikiti assembly constituency.
“Even though we had lodged complaints against the accused, police did not take any action against them since they were from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD),” said BJP’s district president Kanhu Charan Pati on Thursday.
“Police in K.Nuagaon is being partial and acting at the instructions of the BJD,” he said, demanding immediate action against the cops as well.
Pati also cited some incidents, where the police maintained silence and did not take action against the ruling party supporters.
He said the campaigning vehicle was moving across several areas of Chikiti assembly constituency ahead of the visit of Union Oil minister and parry leader Dharmendra Pradhan to Patrapur on Jan 13.
They had also put up posters and flags in several areas ahead of his visit.
Pati further alleged that on Jan 1, some BJD supporters had allegedly torn posters and banners of the BJP.
Led by Pati, a party delegation submitted a memorandum to DIG (Southern Range) Asish Singh in this regard.
“The DIG assured us inquiry into the matter through a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and accordingly action will be taken,” said Pati.
