Berhampur, Dec 27 (LocalWire) Police on Thursday seized around 377 gram of gold ornaments, 6.700-kilo of silver ornaments and several explosive and firearms after busting a camp of anti-socals at Begunia jungle under Ganjam district’s Jagannath Prasad police station limits, about 80-km from here.
Some of the anti-socials, who were in the camp during the police raid, however, managed to flee from the spot, said Bhanjanagara sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Utkal Keshari Das.
The camp was operated by Babu Nayak, who was killed in an exchange of fire with the police on Tuesday.
Police arrested one of his associates, who was with him during the encounter near Kadua. He was identified as Tapan Swain.
Getting the information about a camp was operated by Babu in the jungle prior to his death, police raided the forested area and busted it.
The seized gold and silver ornaments might have been looted by the gang from the various places in Ganjam and other neighbouring districts, police suspected.
“We have registered a case and inquiry is on to ascertain the source of the gold and silver ornaments,” said the SDPO.
Police, however, denied the seized ornaments to be the ones looted from Utkal Grammen Bank, Manitara branch last May, where Babu was the main accused.
“These ornaments are not the ones looted from the bank,” said the SDPO.
