Berhampur, May 12 (LocalWire): Cyclone Fani’s landfall in the state may have sounded the knell for several people but the cash registers of hoteliers in Ganjam district has not stopped ringing since.
Hotels in Berhampur and Gopalpur in Ganjam district are doing a brisk business and are packed to capacity as the cyclone-affected people, unable to remain in their devastated homes without electricity and water, have moved in here.
‘During summer, the hotels are mostly occupied but after the cyclone, the hotels are functioning beyond their capacities as the affected people preferred to stay in the hotels till things were fully restored in their hometowns,’ said the former president, Ganjam district hostel association, V Santosh Kumar.
Around 100 hotels run their business in these towns.
People of Bhubaneswar and Puri are living in miserable condition without power and water. They are also facing difficulty to get ration and also draw money from the ATMs.
So, they preferred to move out to nearby towns and spend the days till normalcy is restored.
Several others also went to Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh, about 250-km from here as they did not get hotels here, Kumar said.
