Berhampur, November 29 (LocalWire): Hundreds of commuters in the district here heaved a sigh of relief after the Ganajm district Private Bus Owners’ Association decided to call off their agitation and resumed bus service on Friday.
The private bus owners had pulled out over 400 buses from service since Tuesday to protest against the district administration’s directive to operate buses from Berhampur bus stand at Haladiapadara, instead of City Bus-stand here.
The decision to withdraw the agitation was taken by the bus owners’ association after a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar, which was presided over by the state transport minister Padmanav Behera.
The meeting was also attended by several MLAs of Ganjam, transport secretary, representatives of the bus owners’ association and Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) vice-chairman Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
During the meeting, it was resolved that private buses will operate from the city bus-stand here, while long-distance buses and vehicles of state-owned Odisha State Road Transport Corporation will use the bus stand in Haladipadara.
