Berhampur, April 20 (Localwire): Ganjam police have registered 28 cases of poll-related violence so far in the district, an official said on Saturday.
One was person killed and several others were injured in a clash between two rival parties on March 10.
Eleven cases were registered in Sorada on April 18. On the same day, 16 cases were registered in Berhampur, police said.
Ganjam SP Brijesh Rai said 4 people, including a BJP candidate, were arrested in Sorada. Another BJP candidate Nilamani Bisoi was arrested for vandalizing an EVM in Renti village in Sorada on April 18.
Similarly, three persons were arrested in connection with the murder of Santosh Pati (35) at Kadalijhola in Sorada. Pati, a BJP supporter was beaten death by BJD workers.
Out of 11 pre-poll cases registered in Ganjam district, five of them were against BJP’s Hinjili candidate Pitambara Acharya, police said. Pitambara is contesting against chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Also, 16 election-related cases were registered since April 11, police said. However, no cases of post-poll violence were registered in Ganjam after April 18.
