Berhampur, Oct 13 (LocalWire): Ganjam district authorities on Monday asked the block development officers to prepare the schools for re-opening, if the government decides to open them after the puja vacations.
“We have decided to prepare the school infrastructure to reopen at any time after the puja vacation,” said Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
“Cleaning of the school premises, white washing and painting the walls, electric works, water supply, cleaning of toilets, and repairing of roads will be taken up before the reopening of the schools,” he said.
The school buildings had been used as institutional quarantine centres for migrant workers arriving from outside the state.
“The buildings will have to be thoroughly sanitized so that the students feel safe to study there,” he said.
The collector reviewed the various activities and online classes of different schools in the district. The teachers have also been instructed to not leave the headquarters without prior permission from the authorities.
District Education Officer (DEO) Amulya Kumar Pradhan said that out of 3700-odd school buildings in the district, 1849 have been used as institutional quarantine centers to house migrant workers. The first phase of sanitization of these buildings has been done.
The buildings would again be sanitized and white washed before the reopening of the schools, he said.
