Berhampur, Nov 25 (LocalWire): The students of government-run City High School here were surprised after a bell rang at about 11.40 am on Monday. The teachers informed them about the ‘water-bell’ and asked them to take out their water bottles and have a few sips.
Those who did not carry water from home drank from the RO drinking water tap which the school authorities installed for them, the in-charge head master of the school Kali Charan Pradhan, informed.
Lauding the district administration initiative, Chief Minister Naveen Pantnaik tweeted that it was a first of its kind in the state.
‘We have explained to the students about the necessity of drinking thrice during the school hours, which the district administration has made mandatory from today,’ said Gopal Mishra, the NCC teacher of the school.
District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange inaugurated the initiative at the government run VV Giri Girls’ High School at exactly 11.40 am, the first water bell time in the school.
Earlier, district education officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda asked all the headmaster/ headmistress of the schools to ensure to ring the water-bell to remind students to drink water.
‘The students were seen drinking water enthusiastically during the water break across the district. Besides the government schools, several private schools, including English medium and Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas also introduced the water-bell to remind students to drink water,’ the DEO said.
The initiative is aimed to reduce health problems among children due to dehydration caused for the want of drinking sufficient water and to make drinking water a habit,’ the Collector said.
