Berhampur, March 14 (LocalWire): At least one booth in each assembly constituency of Ganjam district will be manned by all women polling officers during next month’s elections, an official said on Thursday.
Of the 3,063 booths to be set up across 13 assembly constituencies in the politically sensitive district, a number of them would be manned by all women officers, or called pink booths.
“We are planning to set up at least one pink booth in each assembly constituency,” said Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
Pink booths will be set up in the urban areas and they will have transportation facilities for women employees, said additional district magistrate Laxmikant Sethi.
“Like other booths, pink booths will have six polling personnel. The administration would keep a few staff members in reserve, in case any official fail to turn up,” he said.
Sethi said that model booths, with facilities like drinking water and fans, have also been planned.
Meanwhile, Gajapati district has also planned to set up at least two pink booths in its Paralakhemundi assembly segment. “We are planning to turn the pink booths into model booths,” said Gajapati collector Anupam Saha.
