Berhampur, Nov 21 (LocalWire): A newborn girl was found abandoned near a pond, wrapped in a cloth at Mallikeshar under Ganjam district’s Kodala police station limits today morning even as the district administration celebrated ‘Mo Gelha Jhio’ at Berhampur to felicitate mothers of girls born this month.
The initiative was aimed to change the mindset of the people on the birth of girls and to eradicate foeticide.
Local people and police admitted the newborn at a local hospital before shifting her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
The condition of the baby girl is stated to be stable and she is being looked after by Childline activists, The baby will be produced before the child welfare committee after being discharged from the hospital.
‘We are trying to find out the identity of her parents,’ said a police officer in Kodala. Police suspect the child was delivered in some nearby home-stay.
Childline activists said they rescued three newborn girls abandoned in the last three months from different areas of the district.
