Berhampur, Feb 7 (LocalWire) Girls outshone boys at 23rd convocation of Berhampur University held here on Thursday.
Total 31 gold medals were given to students for scoring highest marks in 2018 examinations in different subjects; 19 of them were girls.
State governor-cum-chancellor Ganeshi Lal, who presided over the convocation, presented the gold medals to the awardees.
The awardees included students from various departments of post-graduate courses and best graduates.
Besides gold medals, the university also awarded Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) to five individuals, Doctor of Science (D. Sc) to one and Ph. D degrees to 83 students.
The Governor said Berhampur University students play critical role in building the New India, where there is equal opportunity for all.
“The country today stands at the threshold of a new era of development and progress. At this juncture, young men and women going out of the university have a critical role to play in building New India, where there is equal opportunity for all,” said Lal.
Nageswar Rao, vice chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) said, the university has a significant role in supporting knowledge-driven economic growth strategies and promotion of democratic and social cohesive societies.
Berhampur University vice chancellor Rajendra Prasad Das said the student strength of the university was increased from 1200 to almost 2000.
He said in the coming academic session, the university is planning to add 12 more post-graduate teaching departments to promote interdisciplinary research and student strength in the campus.
