Sambalpur, Dec 31 (LocalWire) Around 47.2 acre of land at Basantpur area, on the outskirts of the city, has been allotted for the proposed second campus of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU).
University Vice Chancellor Atanu Pati said the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has been asked for survey and preparation of the master plan for the second campus. They have already started working on the same.
The Rashtriya Uchachatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) has sanctioned Rs 27.5 crore for the development of infrastructure of the institution.
“The fund will be spent on the development of infrastructure in the existing campus of the university in Sambalpur city,” said Pati.
The institution will get a grant of Rs 27.5 crore more in the second phase, which will be utilised for the development of the second campus at Basantpur.
“We are planning to shift eight departments of the institution to the new campus,” said Pati.
The existing campus of the university is spread over around 38 acres of land in the heart of the city.
The student strength of the university is 5,600 at present.
The university offers 18 undergraduate courses, 20 postgraduate courses, 19 MPhil courses and 10 PhD courses, besides self-financing and vocational courses.
The institution was established in 1944 and upgraded to university in 2015.
