Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 (LocalWire): Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction and this time the death of a goat in a road accident caused fiscal loss of Rs 2.68 crore in Odisha’s Angul district.
As the unsavoury episode unfolds, the state-run Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, one of the major coal producing companies in the country, suffered a cumulative loss to the tune of Rs 2.68 crore yesterday afternoon after a male goat was crushed under the wheels of a coal-laden truck in Jagannath colliery area in Talcher.
People blocked the road paralyzing coal transportation for abour 4 hours from 11.15 am to 3 pm.
The agitators demanded a compensation of Rs 60,000 from the animal’s death, said Vinayak D Jamwal, public relation officer at MCL.
Both coal mining and coal transportation came to a grinding halt because of the road blockade. The production loss incurred by the coal major was assessed at Rs 2.68 crore.
Order was restored following police intervention.
The normal coal mining and transport operation resumed after local police dispersed the unruly agitators, the official added.
