Keonjhar, Nov 22 (LocalWire): A female elephant was crushed to death by a speeding goods train on the Jakhapura-Banspani railway line, said police on Thursday.
The accident took place near pillar no 67/2 between Basantpur and Keonjhar stations near Rachandrapur village at 9.45 pm, said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Keonjhar in a statement.
The DFO said a caution order was received at Khordha control room from Forest Guard Jyotirmayee Pattnaik.
“A caution order was issued from 7 pm to 6 am next day to restrict train speed as there was possible elephant movement between pillar no. 61 to 79. The railway control received above the caution order at 6:48 pm and immediately restricted train speed to 50 kmph,” said the official statement.
The driver of the goods train said he received the caution order around 7 pm.
The driver of the goods train has been booked for violating the caution order.
The DFO said an on-spot inquiry is under progress.
Meanwhile, normal movement of trains has been restored.
