Gopalpur, October 14 (LocalWire): The Gopalpur Port in Odisha has joined the list of select ports in India that can handle cape-sized vessels.
The Port accepted its first cape-size vessel carrying 105,000 tons of limestone on Saturday, a press release by the Gopalpur Ports Limited stated.
The shipment of steel grade limestone was meant for Jindal Steel and Power Limited which the company had imported from the middle-east in a ship owned by Essar Shipping.
Gopalpur Port is undertaking an expansion program that includes dredging of the channel to enable it to receive large ships.
“With the completion of dredging, the Port will become capable of receiving modern, large-sized ships that can cater to the needs of its customers,” the release stated.
“We are very proud to have successfully handled a vessel carting 105,000 tons on 12 October 2019.
In a short time, Shapoorji Pallonji Group has made significant progress in making Gopalpur Port a world-class port,” Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Pvt. Ltd. managing director Amit Saboo said.
