Berhampur, Sept 24 (LocalWire): Police arrested six people, including two couples on Monday for kidnapping and selling a two-year-old baby boy from Goodshed Road under Goshaninuagaon police station limits three days ago.
The baby was also rescued and handed over to his mother, police said. The baby is in good health.
The accused included Brundaban Rana, a bank peon and his wife Baijayanti, who received the baby from Siba Nayak, the main accused who kidnapped the baby, Prafulla Nayak, a sweeper of the medical college and his wife Mamata, who mediated in selling and preparing a document to handover the baby proving that the baby belonging to the couple and Santosh Rana, who coordinated the entire episode, police said.
After kidnapping the baby on 20 September early morning, Siba Nayak of Lanjipalli handed him over to Brundaban Rana and his wife Baijayanti through Prafulla Nayak and Santosh for Rs 30,000, police said.
Police said Brundaban and his wife, who are childless even after 14 years of marriage approached Prafulla to arrange a baby for them from the medical college and hospital some days ago. They also assured to provide Rs 30,000 for the purpose.
Since Prafulla could not arrange the baby from the medical college and hospital, he hatched a plan with Siba to kidnap a baby from an Aregola woman, who was sleeping by the roadside.
According to the plan Siba kidnapped the two-year-old boyand him over to Brundaban through Prafulla and Santosh.
The mother of the baby lodged an FIR the same day when she could not find her baby.
Earlier, Prafulla and his wife Mamata prepared a court document on 2 September, proving the baby belonged to them and they handed him over him to Brundaban as they could not afford to look after him.
But the affidavit was not registered in the court, said inspector in charge, Goshaninuagion police station, Sumit Soren.
Police said during investigation, they nabbed Siba and the entire episode of the kidnapping and selling of the baby was cracked, he added.
