Berhampur, Feb 9 (LocalWire): The state government on Sunday ordered a probe into a bus accident that killed at least 10 people injuring several others.
The mishap took place when a bus carrying about 40 passengers touched a high power line Mandarajpur in Ganjam district During the day.
The Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said, “We will take action against the guilty person after getting the report from Southco Utility, the power distribution company.”
However, he added, that the first priority remains treating the injured.
The Police said that they would register a criminal case against the persons found guilty in the incident.
Local people alleged that the high tension line of KV 11 was lowering in the area. “Despite our complaints, the Southco officials did not take it seriously,” alleged the Sarapanch, Ch.Sudhkar Reddy.
Though the height of the KV line was about nine to ten meters above the ground, here it was at about six to seven meter.
The villagers informed LocalWire that the mishap could have been averted if the authorities had listened to their complaints.
District administration should take action against the Southco officials, who are responsible for sch a major incident, BJP’s district president Bibhuti Jena said.
Former Zilla Parishad member N.Damburu Reddy alleged that the Southco was responsible for the incident and demanded action against the officers of the power distribution company.
Arun Kumar, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Southco Utility, said probe is underway and necessary action would be taken against those responsible.
