Berhampur, August 30 (LocalWire): Sports infrastructure in Ganjam district is likely to get a boost with the government proposing to set up an Integrated Sports Complex (ISP) at Aruapalli with an investment of Rs 43-crore.
While two indoor stadiums, one of them of international standard at Hinjili, are nearing completion, the district administration has identified around 20-acres of land at Aruapalli, near Berhampur University for the proposed ISC.
According to district sports officer (DSO) Prasant Kumar Sahu, preparation of the detail project report (DPR) for the ISC was underway. “We will soon submit the DPR to the government for approval and sanction of the fund for ISC,” he said.
Besides a 150-bedded sports hostel, the proposed ISC would have facilities like synthetic athletic track, multi-purpose indoor hall, an aquatic complex, basketball and volleyball courts. The ISC will also have a yoga hall, medical room, VIP lounge, conference hall, and residential complex, he informed.
Sahu further said that the work on the indoor hall at Hinjili and Chhatrapur at a cost of Rs 8 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively, are nearing completion and will be opened very soon.
“The centrally-air conditioned indoor hall at Hinjili has been built as per international standards. It has all the necessary facilities, including first aid and yoga room with 500 seating capacity,” he said.
According to the DSO, the government has sanctioned funds for setting up of open gyms in eight and seven stadiums located in blocks and urban areas. The cost of each open gym was Rs 15 lakh.
“The open gym would be set up in the blocks including Aska, Ganjam, Polasara, Kabisurya Nagar, Sheragada, Hinjili, Chikiti, and Digapahandi,” he said, adding that similar gyms will also be set up in urban areas like Gopalpur, Polasara, Chikiti, Buguda, Chhatrapur, Ganjam and Hinjili.
