Berhampur, January 11 (Localwire): Ganjam district administration has issued a letter of permission (LoP) to over 19,400 house owners for construction of toilets at their residence.
The LoPs issued during the last two days also mandates that the construction of the toilets should be completed by 15 February 2020.
With the completion of these toilets, the total number of household toilets in the district will increase to 5,22,258 and will cover almost all households here, official sources said.
While issuing the LoP to the beneficiaries, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project director Sidharth Shankar Swain asked the block development officers in the district to clear the payment of the beneficiaries by the same time.
Each of the beneficiaries in the rural area will get Rs 12,000 for the construction of the toilets.
However, over 40,000 beneficiaries, who have got the work order for the construction of toilets, are yet to get their payment.
“The payment was delayed as most of them did not complete the construction work, while some of them did not submit the required documents,” a senior officer stated.
The district administration, however, has advised the beneficiaries to complete their toilet by the stipulated time period and submit documents for early release of benefits, he said.
Sources also indicate that the DRDA PD has warned the engineers of stringent action if they knowingly neglect the disbursement of payment to the beneficiaries after their work is completed and submission of the required documents.
After a baseline survey conducted in 2012, the government had sanctioned 4,61,271 household toilets in the district and barring a few, construction of all toilets has been completed.
Payment, however, has not been cleared for 20,548 beneficiaries so far due to non-clearance of documents, sources stated.
Similarly, the government had sanctioned another 41,513 toilets in August, last year under the left-out-beneficiary category, of which payment for 20,153 households is pending due to non-completion of toilets.
