Jagatsinghpur, May 18 (LocalWire): People of Gualipur village in Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday sought Governor Ganeshi Lal’s intervention to help restore electricity and compensation to affected famers in Cyclone Fani.
They have met the governor while he was distributing relief materials in Gualipur.
The May 3 cyclone had destroyed a large area of betel and green gram plantation and damaged houses.
A government deadline to restore electricity in all affected areas by May 12 hasn’t been met in Gualipur.
Raghunathpur and Biridi blocks of the district were the worst affected.
Meanwhile, many households in the village have received the relief materials for the first time from the governor.
People have urged him to help provide relief assistance regularly.
The governor distributed polythene, mosquito nets, biscuit packets, chuda, gud, water jar, candle to 117 affected families belonging to ST and SC communities on behalf of the Red Cross.
He later inspected the crop damage in the cyclone.
Gualipur Sarpanch Janaki Ballav Swain said, “The farmers have lost their entire betel vine so their debt burden has increased many fold.
“Power supply has not yet restored in Raghunathpur block, so hundreds of villages under 12 panchyats are still living in dark.
We have sought the governor’s help to restore power.”
After reviewing aid distribution and the restoration work for drinking water, power and health services, and crop damage, he asked the officials to expedite the relief measures, including restoration of electricity. Nearly 92,000 people were evacuated from the area for cyclone Fani.
A total of 10,000 electric poles and 106 transformers were damaged in the district in the cyclone.
Till date, full power supply has been restored on 4500 LT and 33 KV line, while 97 restoration works for 11 KV line has also been completed, said an official.
Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar and other district & block officials were present on this occasion.
