Jagatsinghpur, March 1(LocalWire): Jagatsinghpur Municipality disbursed land documents to several landless families and slum dwellers under ‘Jaga Mission’ scheme today.
The slum dwellers had for long demanded patta or land document to build permanent structures and had often demonstrated in front of the Collectorate under the banner of Dalit Bikash Parishad, led by its president Sankar Das.
The Parishad had sought the intervention of the collector and also the chief minister. Later a Public Interest Litigation was also filed in the state High Court demanding land documents in favour of these landless families.
The beneficiaries were happy that after several protests they received the land documents but rued that their children had not received the caste, income or residential certificates which helps them obtain monetary benefits through post-metric scholarships.
Without the financial help their children could not enrol into government-aided residential schools and thus could not pursue higher education.
The Project Director, DRDA Braj Gopal Acharya, executive officer Baldev Behera,Tahsildar Manas Ranjan Bhoi and others were present during the occasion of land distribution.
