Bhubaneswar, April 30(LocalWire): The Odisha government has cancelled all staff leaves in four costal districts which are likely on the path of cyclone Fani, an official said on Tuesday.
Collectors of Puri, Ganjam, Kendrapara and Khurda districts have been instructed to remain alert, as the storm is expected to hit the Odisha coast on Wednesday.
Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has directed the officials to stock essential items like food, medicine and drinking water after a high-level meeting to review the state’s preparedness.
“Twenty teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, 12 units of National Disaster Response Force and 335 units of state fire services are kept in readiness,” Padhi said.
Meanwhile, special relief commissioner Bishnupada Sethi has directed all collectors of the coastal districts to re-vitalize the cyclone infra in the state.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till further notice.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in next six hours and severe cyclonic storm in subsequent 24 hours as it moves towards the country’s eastern coast.
