Bhubaneswar, Oct 31 (LocalWire): Odisha government has formulated guidelines for its employees clamping restriction on them from interaction with media.
With reports of government servants going overdrive in making media statements and denting the image of the government, the general administration and public grievances department has issued a letter titled ‘Code of conduct of government servants in connection with interacting with media’ asking them to maintain restraint in this regard.
Government servants have to maintain due restraint in writing, releasing contents/statements to the print and electronic media, participating in public meetings, discussions on theme, issues when they interact with media in their official capacity, the letter said.
The deviation of the conduct rules by the government servants may be reviewed from time to time followed by appropriate disciplinary action to deter deliberate misconduct, it warned.
It has come to the notice that despite specific regulatory provisions in the state government Servants’ Conduct Code Rules, 1959, some government servants are violating the rules by making statements in print, electronic and social media without adherence to the rules.
It is reiterated that rule 7 of Servants’ Conduct Code Rules, 1959, restricts the government servant from indulging in any kind of communication or publication to the effect that bears criticism to the government and compromises the relation between the state and central government or any foreign state for that matter, unless specifically authorized, it maintained.
